In an illuminating new Harper’s Bazaar interview, Dua Lipa addressed the ripple she caused by wearing a sheer white dress to the 2022 wedding of designer Simon Porte Jacquemus and Marco Maestri. She explained that the choice wasn’t about breaking fashion rules in fact, the dress code called for white, and numerous guests adhered to it yet she still faced criticism, likely due to the garment’s revealing design.
As she put it, "The dress code was white. From all the pictures you can see that everybody’s wearing white, so I don’t know why I got so much stick for it" and added with thoughtful candor, "I think also because I was kind of quite naked for it as well." Jacquemus, the groom himself, designed the mermaid-skirted, cap-sleeved gown adorned with 3D floral details and had personally asked her to wear it. Lipa said she felt incredible in the dress and that the memory remains vivid: “I absolutely loved it. I felt so good in it. It was just unbelievable. I feel like I talk about that wedding still to this day.”
The interview went beyond fashion. Lipa also spoke about her love for reading, recalling childhood weekends spent in bookshops where a cherished book helped spark her early creative imagination. Those memories inspired her to launch the Service95 book club an effort to share that joy and slow-down ritual with others.
On the personal front, Dua Lipa opened her heart about her relationship with fiancé Callum Turner. Their romance, which became public in early 2024, culminated in an engagement announced in June 2025.
The singer described herself as “happier than ever” and reflected on how openness to love transformed her outlook. “That vulnerability is so scary, but I feel so lucky to get to feel it,” she shared, noting how she used to guard her heart but is now embracing life’s emotional depths fully. The couple are cherishing the engagement without rushing wedding plans, caught up in their respective careers but deeply connected.
In the end, Dua Lipa’s candor did more than clarify a fashion moment it revealed how a single outfit can intersect with identity, art, and personal evolution. She used a simple question why that dress? to reflect on expression, trust, creativity, and the kind of love that transforms a moment into a memory.
