Universal Pictures has officially announced a biopic chronicling the life and career of iconic rapper Snoop Dogg, with acclaimed filmmaker Craig Brewer set to direct. This project marks the first cinematic endeavor under the newly established Death Row Pictures, an extension of the legendary Death Row Records, which Snoop Dogg acquired in 2022.

The biopic will be produced by Snoop Dogg himself, alongside Brian Grazer and Sara Ramaker, president of Death Row Pictures. Joe Robert Cole, known for co-writing Marvel's Black Panther and The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, has penned the screenplay, with Brewer contributing revisions.

Craig Brewer is renowned for his work on music-centric films. His 2005 film Hustle & Flow earned an Academy Award for Best Original Song and a Best Actor nomination for Terrence Howard. Brewer also directed Black Snake Moan (2006), Footloose (2011), and Dolemite Is My Name (2019), the latter starring Eddie Murphy and featuring Snoop Dogg in a supporting role.

Born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., Snoop Dogg emerged in the early 1990s under the mentorship of Dr. Dre. His debut album, Doggystyle (1993), produced by Dr. Dre, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and solidified his place in hip-hop history. Over the years, Snoop has released 21 studio albums and ventured into acting, appearing in films like Training Day and The Beach Bum.

Universal Pictures has a history of successful hip-hop biopics. The studio's 2015 film Straight Outta Compton, depicting the rise of N.W.A., grossed over $200 million worldwide and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Snoop Dogg was portrayed by Lakeith Stanfield in the film.

While casting details and a release date have yet to be announced, the collaboration between Snoop Dogg and Craig Brewer has generated significant buzz. The film aims to provide an authentic portrayal of Snoop's journey from Long Beach to global stardom, highlighting his contributions to music, film, and culture.

As the project progresses, fans eagerly await further updates on this cinematic tribute to one of hip-hop's most enduring figures.
