KATSEYE Leader Sophia Laforteza Announces Temporary Break From Group

KATSEYE is facing another temporary lineup change as group leader Sophia Laforteza announced that she is stepping away from activities to prioritize her health. The 23-year-old singer shared the decision with fans on August 7, explaining that taking time away from performing was difficult but necessary for her long-term well-being.

Laforteza addressed the group's devoted fanbase, known as Eyekons, through an emotional Instagram Story. She acknowledged how much she loves performing and sharing experiences with audiences, making the decision to temporarily leave the stage particularly challenging.

The singer explained that she has come to recognize the importance of protecting both her physical and mental well-being. Rather than continuing to push herself while struggling, Laforteza said she wants to properly recover so she can eventually return stronger and continue doing what she loves for years to come.

She also thanked fans for their patience and understanding, promising to work toward recovery while continuing to support KATSEYE from the sidelines. Laforteza encouraged Eyekons to keep showing the remaining members the same enthusiasm and affection while she takes time away.

Her announcement arrives during an important period for KATSEYE. The international girl group is preparing to release its third EP, "Wild," on August 14, followed shortly afterward by the Wildworld Tour. The tour is scheduled to begin in Dublin on September 1.

It remains unclear whether Laforteza will recover in time to participate in the tour or when she will officially return to group activities.

The development follows another significant change involving KATSEYE earlier this year. In February, Manon Bannerman temporarily stepped away from the group to focus on her own health and well-being. At the time, KATSEYE said the decision followed thoughtful discussions and emphasized that the members fully supported Bannerman.

With Laforteza now taking her own temporary break, KATSEYE currently has four active members: Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel and Yoonchae Jeung.

KATSEYE was created in 2023 through "The Debut: Dream Academy," the global competition developed through a partnership between HYBE and Geffen Records. Laforteza emerged as one of the successful contestants and became the group's leader, helping shape KATSEYE as it developed an increasingly international following.

The group has since established itself as one of the most prominent new acts created through the global K-pop training model, blending members from different cultural backgrounds with an approach designed for international audiences.

Laforteza's decision also arrives amid growing conversations throughout the entertainment industry about the demanding schedules faced by young performers. Touring, recording, rehearsals, promotional appearances and constant interaction with fans can create intense physical and emotional pressure, particularly as artists attempt to maintain momentum during the early stages of their careers.

For now, KATSEYE is expected to continue its scheduled activities while Laforteza concentrates on her recovery. Her message made clear that the separation is intended to be temporary and that she hopes to eventually return to the stage.

Until then, Laforteza plans to experience KATSEYE from a different perspective, joining the Eyekons in supporting her fellow members as the group enters its next chapter.
