Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez have officially tied the knot, marking a new chapter in a love story that has unfolded in the public eye for nearly a decade.

The Portuguese soccer superstar, 41, and Rodríguez, 32, married in an intimate civil ceremony in Cascais, Portugal, on August 11. The wedding came exactly one year after the couple publicly announced their engagement, adding another sentimental detail to a relationship that began in Madrid in 2016.

Ronaldo and Rodríguez confirmed their marriage with a simple social media announcement. Rather than revealing an elaborate collection of wedding photographs, the couple shared an image highlighting their wedding bands. The understated announcement reflected the relatively private approach they have often taken toward their most personal family milestones.

Their wedding followed months of speculation about when and where the ceremony would take place. Rumors intensified after Ronaldo and Rodríguez were spotted wearing rings during a summer trip to Mallorca, leading some fans to wonder whether they had already quietly married. The Cascais ceremony finally provided an answer.

The marriage comes after a relationship that began with a chance encounter at a Gucci store in Madrid, where Rodríguez was working as a sales assistant. Ronaldo was playing for Real Madrid at the time, and their connection quickly developed into a romance that would eventually transform Rodríguez into one of the most recognizable partners of a professional athlete.

Over the years, the couple became increasingly comfortable sharing parts of their family life with the public. They welcomed daughter Alana Martina in November 2017. In 2022, Rodríguez gave birth to twins, but their son Ángel died during childbirth while their daughter Bella survived. The couple publicly shared their grief at the time, describing the devastating loss while celebrating the arrival of their daughter.

Rodríguez has also embraced Ronaldo's three other children, Cristiano Jr. and twins Eva and Mateo, creating a blended family that has frequently appeared together at vacations, celebrations and major moments throughout Ronaldo's career.

Marriage speculation had followed the couple long before their official engagement. Ronaldo occasionally referred to Rodríguez as his wife, including during a 2024 video, fueling questions about whether the pair had secretly formalized their relationship.

Those questions appeared to be answered in August 2025 when Rodríguez announced their engagement. She shared a photograph of an enormous diamond ring alongside a romantic message confirming that she had accepted Ronaldo's proposal. The engagement came after approximately eight years together. One year later, the couple made their marriage official.

The ceremony represents a major personal milestone for Ronaldo, whose professional career has made him one of the most famous athletes in the world. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has played for Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr while remaining one of Portugal's most celebrated sporting figures.

Rodríguez, meanwhile, has developed an international profile of her own through modeling, fashion appearances, social media and her reality series centered on her family and personal life.

After nearly 10 years together, their wedding was less the beginning of a new relationship than the formal celebration of a family they had already spent years building. For Ronaldo and Rodríguez, August 11 now carries two major milestones. It marks both the anniversary of their engagement and the day they finally became husband and wife.
